I’ve been lost in batches of new dyes as well as several experimental side projects. One that I am very invested in is this stationery. It’s called “Forever the Gentleman”. I remain conflicted about whether to keep it as a permanent piece in the “future shop” or to put it away until I can figure out what else I could possibly do with it or to it! It’s no secret that I’m fond of the more dark and mysterious looking materials  but this has a bit of mystery about it in its own seductive way. This is what I came up with!</p> <p>This envelope has a medieval look to it but despite its worn and ragged appearance the feel of it is actually rather smooth and can be likened to that of soft leather. For this particular piece I wanted to give it a really dark and torn feel to mirror the emotions in the words on the page. </p> <p>This paper was hand dyed using a personal blend and the edges went through several treatments to achieve the look that they have now. The intended purpose of producing such materials is to inspire people to once again take their pens into their hands and rediscover the profound intimacy that lies in a handwritten letter. Sometimes it is not so much the letter itself that captivates us but instead it&#8217;s the construction of it. What sort of paper was used to write on? Is it thick or fairly thin? What sort of texture does it have? Have the pages caught and held the stray scents from your lovers perfume or cologne as their skin brushed against the page while they wrote?
